Feely Studio follows with brand identity and web design. The four agencies with salon or wax-centre chain cases come next: two for large franchise networks, then two for local salon groups. Wolff Olins: one brand system for thousands of locations

Wolff Olins built the brand system for Benefit, a cosmetics brand with more than 3,200 locations in over 50 countries (Benefit case). Benefit started out as The Face Place and now operates under LVMH.

Strengths: research, brand strategy and visual and verbal identity, with graphics built from cheeks, eyes, brows and lips and a logo that can “abbreviate, reshuffle, and even wink”; the “Fun-Loving Beauty Genius” voice across campaigns, packaging and “expressive in-store and online experiences”.

Suits: a franchisor with hundreds of locations in several countries and the budget for a global agency.

Not for: a regional chain of a few salons, since its Benefit case runs at the scale of a global brand.

Price: on request.

2. Pentagram: identity and interiors for stores of every size

Pentagram, a creative collective of partners, designed the identity and the interiors for Moss Bros, a menswear chain of 150 stores. The stores differ in size and format, from standalone shops in London to shopping centres in the Midlands (Moss Bros case). Pentagram shows no salon or beauty-service chain on its site. The case is here because your salons may differ in the same way: a high street unit, a shopping-centre unit and a small branch.

Strengths: the work covered a new identity, tone of voice, interior strategy and a manifesto for the chain. A master palette and a horizontal line act as the “visual hallmark”, and sub-brands keep their own colours and photo style. In the stores, the interiors use European oak and a simplified palette of materials.

Suits: a chain that needs one identity and one interior approach across all its salons.

Not for: a chain that also wants its website and booking path redesigned, since the Moss Bros case shows no website work.

Price: on request.

3. Feely Studio: brand book, website and a design subscription

Feely Studio designs brand identities and websites for startups and digital companies, with identity projects from 3 weeks and website sprints from 2 weeks.

Strengths: identity from positioning to logo, typography and colours, a brand book with guidelines for keeping the brand consistent, and Webflow sites (CMS setup, basic SEO) or sites built in Framer. StrawberryFrog: repositioning a beauty franchise

StrawberryFrog moved European Wax Center’s positioning from a “hair removal service” to a partner in “revealing one’s natural beauty” (European Wax Center case). Salons by JC is a salon-suite franchise that gives beauty professionals a private studio to run as their own business. The case page puts its network at 4,500+ independent salon owners. Ruckus also works with beauty and personal-care brands.

Strengths: before any design, Ruckus ran 28 stakeholder interviews, 2 focus groups with salon owners and an all-day brand workshop. It then designed a mobile-first site with a searchable directory by service, salon or city and a booking path that lets clients reserve in a few taps.

Suits: a franchise network that needs one site with a page for every location.

Not for: a chain that needs signage and interiors from the same agency, since the case page does not show that work.

Price: on request.

6. Engine Creative: a new name for a hairdressing franchise

The Cutting Rooms, a hairdressing franchise in Northampton, became Major after the owners’ surname, and Engine Creative ran the rebrand from audience research onwards (Major case). Your franchise agreement spells out what franchisees must buy from the franchisor, from approved suppliers or to the franchisor’s specifications. If franchisees must buy signs to your specification, the brand book is the document that holds it.

The brand is one part of a beauty franchise package, next to procedures, group purchasing and the standards for fitting out a new salon. If clients book through a branded client app on Altegio, its name, icon, colours and store screenshots come from your brand too. Ask your branding agency to hand the brand book over in editable files that you, the franchisor, own.

Does every salon need its own page on the new website?

In practice, yes: a page per salon gives every Google profile its own link. Google wants each location’s profile to have a phone number that connects to that location or a website that represents it. Under Google’s guidelines, the name “should reflect your business’s real-world name, as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery” (Google Business Profile guidelines). All locations in one country must carry the same name, unless some locations consistently use a different name on their storefront, website or stationery.

Your agency designs the location pages and the path to booking, while the booking engine stays in your booking system. Ruckus designed location microsites and a booking path for Salons by JC, and Engine Creative refined Major’s booking journey. Altegio holds the schedules, clients and payments for the chain in one place, and an open API lets the designed pages plug straight into it. Clients book across all locations from a single widget with real-time schedule availability, and you run schedules and settings from one chain dashboard. In the brief, ask for a booking button on every location page that opens your booking widget.

Each location page is also where clients land when they choose a salon on Google, so give it that salon’s address, opening hours and team.

How do you roll a rebrand out to salons that franchisees own?

Agree the plan with your franchisees first, then test the new brand in one pilot salon. After that, the new website goes live across the network on one fixed date, and signs go up salon by salon. On the day a salon’s new sign is in place, its location page, its Google profile name and its booking buttons on maps and social switch to the new name too. If they must pay into an advertising fund, the franchise agreement sets out how it works. Check the agreement for what the fund may pay for before you plan the rebrand budget. If your system has a council of franchisees that advises on advertising, take a rebrand paid from the fund to it first.

Who controls the salons’ Google profiles during the switch?

A profile a franchisee has verified stays theirs: you request access from your account and the franchisee, as the current owner, can approve or deny it (Google). To take a profile over, the owner adds you as an owner and transfers ownership to you. Agree that access with each franchisee before that salon’s new sign goes up. Under Google’s rebranding rules, a business with multiple locations may be able to change its name on the existing profiles instead of creating new ones (Google Business Profile guidelines). If the change does not meet those criteria, Google treats it as a new business, so you mark the existing profile as closed and create a new one. Check eligibility early. For 10 or more locations of one business there is bulk verification, which agencies that manage several businesses in one account cannot use. Bulk verification skips profiles that someone else has already claimed (Google).

Which agency fits your chain?

Size settles two choices: Wolff Olins for the largest multi-country networks, Creative Direction for the smallest regional groups. For the other five, choose by what the rebrand has to change.

One identity and interior approach for salons of different sizes: Pentagram.

Monthly design work after the rebrand: Feely Studio.

A beauty franchise changing what it stands for: StrawberryFrog.

A microsite for every salon: Ruckus.

A chain changing its name: Engine Creative.

Ask each agency on your shortlist for a case with signage or location pages, since those show how it applies one brand across many salons.

FAQ

How much does it cost to rebrand a salon franchise?

No agency on this list publishes a price for rebranding a chain, so you compare quotes. Ask every agency to quote the same scope: a brand book with signage specifications, a website with location pages, templates for franchisees and rollout support.

How long does a salon rebrand take?

Only Feely Studio publishes timings: from 3 weeks for brand identity, from 2 weeks for website sprints and from 6 weeks for a package of identity, guidelines and a Webflow site. None of the seven publishes a timeline for a chain rebrand. Ask each agency for a schedule split into the brand book, the website and the rollout; new signs and fit-out come on top, salon by salon, on dates you agree with each franchisee.

What is the difference between a branding agency and a salon marketing agency?

A branding agency creates the identity, the brand book, interiors guidance and the website. A salon marketing agency runs ads, PPC and social campaigns on top of a brand that already exists. If you need a new identity, shortlist agencies whose case pages show finished rebrands with a brand book.

Can franchisees adapt the brand for local ads?

Yes, within limits you set in the brand book: the logo, colours and fonts stay fixed, while editable templates leave room for local offers and events. Your franchisee then changes the text and the photo, and every ad still looks like your network.

Seven branding agencies for salon franchises and chains, compared by what their own case pages show: brand books, signs and interiors, websites.
